PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has issued an additional notification regarding the changing weather situation in Cambodia, saying that between 11-14 July, the coastal areas in Cambodia will have continuous rain, which may result in some areas of Sihanoukville and Koh Kong to experience flooding.

In a statement issued on Monday, 11 June, the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology said that the situation was caused by the effects of prolonged ITCZ low pressure from Thailand, linked to an active low pressure on the South China Sea and the southwest monsoon over the coast and southern parts of Cambodia.

With flood warnings in Koh Kong and Sihanoukville provinces, the Ministry of Water Resources also confirmed that there will be heavy rain, strong winds and high waves on the sea surface.

"Please keep the public informed and take extra precaution to avoid any possible accidents," said the Ministry.

In late June, Preah Sihanouk Provincial Governor, Kouch Chamroeun, instructed the provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology to restore the canal system in Sihanoukville to avoid flooding. According to the Department of Water Resources, more than 10,000 cubic meters of soil will be removed from the canal system in the province.

Sihanoukville was hit by the severe flooding in 2021, which inundated the province and killed one person.
